Mud Island River Park
125 N. Front St.
Memphis, TN
Phone: (901) 576-7241

This island adjacent to the downtown waterfront is connected to the shore by a monorail and a pedestrian bridge. A highlight of the sizable park is the five-block-long scale model of the lower Mississippi River which includes maps of riverside cities and re-creations of the seasonal changes in water level. There's also an amphitheater and the Memphis Belle Pavilion, where the famous World-War-II airplane is on display.

Overton Park
2080 Poplar Ave.
Memphis, TN

This huge park is home to the Brooks Museum, Memphis College of Art and the Memphis Zoo, in addition to a lake, golf course and old-growth forest. Pick up a map at the golf house and walk the 1-mi/1.6-km Old Forest Trail. Also within the park is the Overton Park Shell, an interesting half-dome that is sometimes used for outdoor concerts.

Tom Lee Park
Beale St. and Riverside Dr.
Memphis, TN

This downtown park offers a good view of the Mississippi River. Many of Memphis' biggest festivals take place there, including the Beale Street Music Festival and the Great Southern Food Festival.
